Christmas Activities

EcoLocal are offering a range of Christmas Activities that give your children lots of fun, showing that you can enjoy Christmas and still help the environment. 
Sessions include education about reducing waste, re-using and recycling as well as saving energy.  We’ve even got an activity to help look after the birds this Christmas.
Recycled Christmas Decorations        Years 1-6        1 hour

Discover how to save money and resources this Christmas by making your own exciting decorations, from tree decoration characters and reindeer, to paper chains and lanterns.

Recycled Christmas Stockings        Years 1-2        1 hour

Design and make a recycled Christmas stocking and learn about recycling clothes (children will need to bring their own thick adult sock).

Look After the Birds This Christmas        Years 3-6       1.5 hours

Find out what different birds eat and make your own bird feeder to feed the birds and home or school.

Christmas Finger Puppets        Years 1-5        1 hour

Make nativity or other seasonal finger puppets from recycled materials.

Angels and Snowmen        Years 3-6        1-1.5 hours

Turn a used plastic bottle into an amazing angel, fairy or snowman for the top of your Christmas tree (children will need to bring in their own small plastic drinks bottle), and learn what things go in which bin to recycle your food packaging at home.

Keep Warm This Winter         Years 3-5        1.5 hours

Discover how insulation keeps polar bears and humans warm.  A practical session involving experiments with ice, gloves and polar bears.

We Three Kings of Recycling        Reception to Year 1        1 hour

Find out about recycling your Christmas cards and wrapping paper and make yourself a recycled crown so that you can be a king or queen of recycling this Christmas.
